Majestic Realty Co. Senior Vice President Fran Inman was recently installed to serve as the 2009 chair of the board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber’s 120th Annual Inaugural Dinner.  This year’s gathering was the largest in the Chamber’s history with more than 1,300 business and civic leaders in attendance.  Inman is the third woman to serve as the Chamber’s chair of the board.

“This year’s Inaugural Dinner installing Fran Inman as board chair was an evening not to be missed by L.A.’s business and civic community,” said Gary Toebben, President & CEO, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.  “During these difficult economic times, the energy of the evening kicked off the year with the passion and optimism we need to accelerate recovery.”

Also honored at the event, were Thomas V. McKernan., CEO of the Automobile Club of Southern California with the prestigious Civic Medal of Honor; Dr. Ray R. Irani, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Occidental Petroleum with the Distinguished Business Leader award; and Woodbury University with the Corporate Leadership award.  Inman said of the honorees, “I am truly humbled to share the stage with such giants in our community.”

Held in downtown Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE, the theme of the event was “ENGAGE INNOVATE PROSPER.”  In response to the record attendance Inman told the audience, “While we are all feeling the effects of the economy, your presence here is testament to the strength, endurance and commitment of business.”  She later continued, “There is no doubt about it, 2009 will be challenging…History tells us that it is business that has brought us out of recessions in the past.  And it is business that must ignite the recovery engine once again.  The success of our region will be earned by all of us working together.”

In a video tribute U.S. Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) offered his congratulations. “Fran Inman is a force of nature,” Rep Dreier said, “She is nonstop, constantly in motion and always looking ahead.”

Widely recognized for her leadership and ability to develop solutions and build consensus, Inman is an outspoken advocate in the push to improve the nation’s failing transportation infrastructure.  She is tireless in her commitment to keep both people and goods moving.  Equally avid in her role in the nonprofit sector, Inman is the founding president of the Majestic Realty Foundation, which provides grants and other support to various nonprofit community partners that work the areas of youth, family, education, violence prevention and health.

At the event, Inman announced that the Majestic Realty Foundation was making a $10,000 contribution to the HIRE LA’s Youth program – a partnership of the Los Angeles Mayor’s office and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We all remember our first job,” Inman said, “I encourage each of you to participate in HIRE LA’s Youth and other programs that serve our community.”  The program connects qualified young adults with employment opportunities at local businesses.  In 2008, HIRE LA’s Youth provided 10,000 young adults with work experience.  For more information, visit www.layouthatwork.org.
