City of Industry, CA – Edward P. Roski, Jr., president and chairman of the board of Majestic Realty, has been named the inaugural Hall of Fame inductee for the Southern California chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Roski, Jr. received a standing ovation from a packed house as he was honored at the organization’s first awards gala held in May.
Since joining the company in 1966, he has been the driving force in providing the strategic vision and growing the company that his father founded in 1948 – from a single lease transaction – into the nation’s largest, privately-held development company with an 82-million square-foot portfolio that includes industrial, office, and retail space, as well as sports, entertainment and hospitality projects. Combining his love of sports with his passion for business, he also is co-owner of the Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, and played a critical role in developing Crypto.com Arena (originally STAPLES Center), a landmark in downtown Los Angeles that has driven significant economic growth for the region since its opening in 1999.
“We could not imagine a more deserving individual to honor as the inaugural inductee for our newly created Hall of Fame,” said NAIOP SoCal CEO Tim Jemal. “Ed Roski, Jr. represents the very best in our industry and community. His accomplishments in the field of commercial real estate are matched by his generosity and commitment to helping make our communities better, stronger and more successful. A humble man of the highest character, Ed has set a high bar for all of us.”
“I am incredibly honored to be recognized by our commercial real estate peers and industry partners at NAIOP,” said Roski, Jr. “Along with our team at Majestic, we’ve worked hard to carry forward the vision, integrity and work ethic that my father demonstrated and instilled in us. Together, with a very dedicated group of professionals we’re eager to continue to demonstrate our leadership, innovation and success. We do this by following our passion, bringing our best self each-and-every day, valuing the power of relationships and, most important, remembering to give back.”
A generous and well-respected philanthropist, Roski, Jr. personally commits his time and resources to countless civic organizations throughout Los Angeles. He takes an active role in the city’s cultural and educational development, serving on the Board of Trustees at the University of Southern California as well as on boards of the Bowers Museum, the National Geographic Society, and the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission.
The Majestic Realty Foundation was founded in 2002 in an effort to move from “passive to active” philanthropy in all of our key markets across the United States. Annually the Majestic Realty Foundation donates hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless hours of service as the cornerstone of the company’s community investment program. In 2007 along with two veteran co-workers, Roski established the Land of the Free Foundation, to help families of our country’s veterans. The Foundation has contributed more than $15 million to some 75 charitable organizations serving veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
Outside of his civic and professional endeavors, his great love is adventure travel. A member of the famed Explorers Club, he has climbed to Base Camp at Mt. Everest, K2, and Mt. Kilimanjaro, ridden his bike across Mongolia, Russia, and Burma, made several deep-water dives throughout New Guinea, and descended, in a Russian submersible, to the wreck of the Titanic, 2.5 miles beneath the ocean’s surface.
