Topgolf, a national chain of golf entertainment complexes that mix driving ranges with bars and restaurants, announced on Thursday that construction of its Hillsboro location – its first in the Pacific Northwest – will begin early next week.

The 65,000-square-foot facility will include a technologically enhanced driving range, indoor games, a bar, a restaurant, more than 230 TV screens and space for corporate events. It is scheduled to open next spring.

Topgolf is leasing 13 acres from Majestic Realty in the North Hillsboro Industrial Area; the company needed a conditional use permit to operate commercially in the district, which is otherwise intended for industrial and business-park uses. Majestic has also leased space to ViaWest for a 200,000-square-foot data center.

The site is located at the southeast corner of U.S. 26 and Brookwood Parkway.

“Hillsboro is a best-in-class, business-friendly city that allows Topgolf to tap into the Portland market,” said Topgolf Vice President of Real Estate Zach Shor in a news release. “The city offers a strong daytime population and office presence, fantastic demographics, and an entertainment draw with the Hillsboro Hops. We are excited to bring the community another option for recreation.”

In the release, Hillsboro City Manager Michael Brown said Topgolf “meets our community’s desire to have major attractions in our hometown for our residents, business employees and clients, and tourists.”

Topgolf has 13 locations in Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Texas and Virginia, according to its website, with 12 other facilities under construction in states like California, Kansas, Oklahoma, Utah and Colorado. The company also has three locations in the United Kingdom.
