A major retailer has selected North Texas as the location on a large new e-commerce facility.

Bed Bath & Beyond has leased almost 800,000 square feet of warehouse space northeast of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.  The new facility will employ between 600 and 1,000 people who will fulfill online merchandise orders for Bed Bath & Beyond.

“It’s an e-commerce center which they don’t have right now,” said developer Al Sorrels with Majestic Realty Co., owner of the building. “This a very important deal for them.”

Bed Bath & Beyond – which has more than 1,500 brick and mortar stores – said last year that it intends to significantly expand its online sales, which account for only about 10 percent of its business.

The nationwide retailer looked at locations across North Texas before selecting the Majestic Airport Center DFW business park on State Highway 121.  The building opened last year and is owned by Majestic Realty and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance.

“It was a long protracted deal and is great for our industrial park,” Sorrels said. “I’m glad to get the majority of the building leased.” Sorrels said Majestic is developing two more warehouses in the 200-acre project that will add another 850,000 square feet.

Sorrels negotiated the Bed Bath & Beyond lease with David Knee, Tom McCarthy and Kurt Griffin of JLL.

Bed Bath & Beyond is just the latest retailer to expand its online sales distribution footprint in North Texas.

Amazon, Wal-Mart and Williams-Sonoma all have new warehouses in the area.
