City of Industry, Calif. – Fran Inman, senior vice president for governmental relations and community affairs for Majestic Realty Co. and a member of the California Transportation Commission, has been named to serve on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Freight Advisory Committee (NFAC).

The 47-member citizens committee was established to advise the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on matters related to freight transportation in the United States.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation website, the NFAC will focus on:

  • Implementation of the freight transportation requirements of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act;
  • Establishment of the National Freight Network;
  • Development of a National Freight Strategic Plan;
  • Development of strategies to help States implement State Freight Advisory Committees and State Freight Plans;
  • Development of measures of conditions and performance in freight transportation;
  • Development of freight transportation investment, data, and planning tools; and making legislative recommendations.

“Fran is widely recognized for her leadership and ability to develop solutions and build consensus,” said Hasan Ikhrata, executive director of the Southern California Council of Government.  “Her expertise and approach combine a profound understanding of the balance required to build sustainable communities and the role that transportation and goods movement plays in our communities.”

“This is a tremendous honor and opportunity for Majestic to work hand-in-hand with the DOT on developing innovative programs and strategies necessary to drive the transportation infrastructure investments industry in the years and decades ahead,” said Inman.  “Our company has been an outspoken advocate for transportation infrastructure funding and we look forward to the opportunity we’ve been given to be an instrumental voice and leader in these critical important transportation issues for many years to come.”

Larry Ehl, founder and publisher of Transportation Issues Daily, called Inman a “Rock Star Transportation Advocate” and stated that she has long been a champion on behalf of transportation issues at the local, state and federal level, particularly issues surrounding freight movement.

“What I’ve always appreciated about Fran and Majestic is that they’re in the game,” wrote Ehl “Many businesses across the country depend on the transportation network, but few are engaged in working for adequate transportation funding, and improving transportation policy. They are bystanders. The sidelines are one place you won’t find Fran and Majestic.”

In recognition of her leadership on transportation issues, the Southern California Council of Governments (SCAG) recently honored Inman as its 2013 Business Leader of the Year. Additionally, she was named “Private Sector Leader of the Year” at the 2012 Mobility 21 Summit in Anaheim, which brought together more than 800 transportation professionals from around Southern California.

At the time of the Mobility 21 honor, Gary Toebben, president and CEO of the LA Area Chamber of Commerce, said “Fran’s leadership and dedication are evidenced in her tackling some of the nation’s toughest challenges related to mobility, air quality and competitiveness in a global world.”

In addition, Inman previously served on the Public Infrastructure Advisory Commission, California’s Goods Movement Action Plan Integration Committee, and the Joint Mayors’ of Los Angeles/Long Beach Goods Movement Task Force.
