Council seeking involved parents

INDUSTRY – Leaders from the urban youth centers that make up the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council met recently with Los Angeles Unified School District board member Yolie Flores Aguilar to discuss effective strategies for fostering parent involvement in the educational process.

“Youth centers play a critical role in promoting education and parent involvement,” said Fran Inman, president of the Majestic Realty Foundation, which founded and sponsors the LAYLC.

“Because centers are often a home-away-from-home for young people, these leaders can help mentor both students and parents.”

Participating in the recent meeting were executive directors and program staff leaders of the following urban youth centers that make up the leadership council: The Salesian Boys & Girls Club, the Bresee Foundation, the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth and Community Center, Para los Niños and Heart of Los Angeles.
