MAJESTIC KIDS – You asked and we answered. In response to your requests, we are developing ways for our employee's children to get involved in our nonprofit endeavors. Not only will this help foster a commitment to service in all our families, but it will also increase support to nonprofits in our communities. To help us focus these efforts, please let us know if you and your children are interested in participating. Activities may include longer term, ongoing commitments as well as one-time special projects, such as work days or special events. Opportunities might include helping at our local youth centers, libraries, and serving Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless or low-income families. The holidays are just around the corner, and Family Service needs toys, books, and games for young children. They also are collecting gifts for teens as well as the fixings for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It is never too early to sign up for the Adopt-A-Family program that provides gifts and meals to families that would otherwise go without. SAN GABRIEL VALLEY CITY OF INDUSTRY: Support those less fortunate this holiday season by collecting canned food and other non-perishable food items during the annual Crossroads Business Park Canned Food Drive. Collection barrels have been placed in the lobby of the Atrium building (13181-91 Crossroads Parkway North) and the Terrace building (13200 Crossroads Parkway). Items will be collected through November 21st to benefit the El Monte/South El Monte Emergency Resource Association. For more information, please contact Claudia Cervantes, ccervantes@majesticrealty.com WHITTIER: BECOME A VOLUNTEER READING PARTNER – Join forces with The Wonder of Reading and Sorensen Elementary School and become a volunteer reading partner to a public elementary school student who needs a mentor like you! An extensive, fun and interactive three-hour training is provided at the school site to equip new volunteers with special one-on-one reading techniques. Afterwards, participants will be matched with a student who is a struggling reader. Reading partners are asked to commit to spending an hour per week or a minimum of an hour every other week with their student. To become a volunteer reading partner attend the training on Wednesday, November 28th, 8:45 a.m. to noon at Sorensen Elementary School, 11493 Rose Hedge Drive, Whittier. JUDE’S RANCH FOR CHILDREN – On Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Boulder City campus of St. Jude’s Ranch will be flooded with holiday lights and holiday cheer. Family activities will be underway, along with a silent auction, appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus and live entertainment. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served as you wander through the winter wonderland on foot or by a horse-drawn carriage while you enjoy the abundant home decorations, forest of lighted Christmas trees and carolers. DALLAS ..................––––––––––––...........back to top OPERATION FRONTLINE: NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK – The North Texas Food Bank is one of nine food banks throughout the country to offer its member agencies Operation Frontline. Nutrition Education Manager Amy Lopez and Nutrition Education Coordinator Katherine Lindholm, work with the member agencies and their clients to provide them with classes on nutrition, healthy cooking, food budgeting, and food safety. Volunteer positions include Chef Instructor, Nutritionist/Dietitian, and Volunteer Assistant/Grocery Shopper. COMMUNITY KITCHEN: NORTH TEXAS FOODBANK – The Community Kitchen operates as a commissary to nonprofit agencies serving prepared meals to the hungry. The kitchen offers fully prepared frozen meals to heat and serve. The mission of the kitchen is two-fold: offer agencies nutritious prepared foods, while providing culinary job skills training to disadvantaged individuals who have an interest in developing a career in foodservice. The kitchen is 3,000 square feet and, once at capacity, will produce 10,000 meals weekly while providing foodservice training to approximately 80 people per year. Volunteer opportunities include assisting the Training Chef with conducting the curriculum (if qualified) and/or getting involved with daily production. All Club Program Volunteers are asked to attend a comprehensive volunteer orientation; pass a background check to ensure volunteer suitability, and work in a clubs a minimum of two hours per week.
