HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LAYLC

Majestic Realty Foundation’s flagship program, the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council, brings together kids from L.A.’s inner city youth centers for leadership training, team building and community service activities.

With school back in session, LAYLC activities are in full swing.  And more than 16 volunteers from LAYLC recently lent a hand to Los Angeles City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel (pictured left) at her 4th Annual Child Health & Safety Fair in North Hollywood.  The youth, representing the Bresee Foundation Youth Center and the Salesian Boys & Girls Club, assembled lunches for the more than 1,000 attendees, and helped fit hundreds of kids with free bicycle helmets.

“One of the hallmarks of our LAYLC members is that they are always willing to give back to the community and help young people like themselves,” said Meghan Loper, Majestic Realty Foundation program director.  “They always handle themselves at public events with maturity and dignity, making their families, their youth centers, the LAYLC, and all of us at Majestic proud.”

While at Councilmember Greuel’s event, the LAYLC volunteers tested their fitness by climbing the rock wall, learned about dental health and the importance of avoiding sugary snacks, and received free trees from the Million Trees LA organization, which will be planted at the Bresee Foundation.

ON THE WEB:  LAYLC students are featured on the home page of the LA Works website.  Pictured during the recent LA Works volunteer day, the students are shown with shovels and tools in hand as they prepare to clean up and beautify a local park. Thirty-eight teens from LAYLC pitched in to remove litter, clear hiking trails, rid the park of dry brush and repaint fences and benches. See it here: www.laworks.org
