AREA PLANNING TEAM ROUND-UP

LOS ANGELES - Stepping up—literally—to support the Ketchum-Downtown YMCA, the Majestic Realty Foundation signed on as a Gold sponsor of the recent Stair Climb to the Top, a 75-story climb to the top of the landmark U.S. Bank Tower.  Additionally, Majestic employee Susan Aqueche led a team of four up the building’s stairwells.  Proceeds from the annual event support the Y’s community programs, including after-school tutoring and senior fitness programs.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY- Furthering our Foundation’s commitment to healthy communities, the San Gabriel Valley Area Planning Team recently supported the Citrus Valley Health Foundation’s annual Autumn Nocturne fundraising gala.  The event provides critical funding for hospital facilities and programs. Additionally, team members took part in the highly anticipated grand opening of the Wonder of Reading Library in Whittier. Sponsored in part by the Foundation, the new library will serve students at Sorensen Elementary.

INLAND EMPIRE - By popular demand, our Foundation has once again partnered with the Volunteer Center of Riverside County this fall to bring capacity-building seminars to Inland Empire nonprofit organizations.  The free workshops provided valuable training to nonprofit leaders, enabling their organizations to grow and succeed.  Nonprofit consultant Emily Newman led the sessions.

LAS VEGAS - In addition to hosting its own series of capacity-building workshops for local nonprofits, the Las Vegas Area Planning Team recently partnered with the Los Angeles Kings to host a fundraiser at the Frozen Fury game held at the MGM Grand.  And on back-to-back weekends, the Area Planning Team sent participants and volunteers to fundraising walks for American Heart Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

DENVER - Renewing its support for the Second Wind Fund, the Denver Area Planning Team recently took part in a successful fundraising event for the organization. Team member Debbie Snow, a member of Second Wind’s Steering Committee, participated in the Second Wind Walk Run Ride, helping raise more than $160,000 to provide critical services and treatment for teens at risk for suicide.  Additionally, Majestic employee Alexsandra Shimonova joined volunteers who took part in the Day for Kids Dash, a 5K race to raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Area Planning Team recently provided funding for the Camp Twin Lakes Teen Leadership Summit, a leadership development and outdoor education program for teens coping with serious illnesses. While enjoying the fun and adventure of nature and the outdoors, participants will have the opportunity to build self-esteem, share strengths and discuss the challenges presented by their respective health conditions, including attending college with a serious illness, applying for a job, and finding health insurance once their family coverage ends.  Our grant will help cover the cost of nursing staff at camp, as well as transportation, dining, lodging, supplies and program staff.
