Majestic Realty Foundation to Receive Joining the ranks of the nation’s most esteemed philanthropic foundations, the Majestic Realty Foundation will receive the Outstanding Corporate Foundation Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater Los Angeles Chapter at a gala luncheon in honor of National Philanthropy Day on Nov. 14 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “It is a tremendous honor for our Foundation to be recognized among such prestigious foundations from across the country,” said Fran Inman, founding president. “We were established as a 501(c)(3) in 2002, so this award really speaks to the power of our belief in active philanthropy, and the innovative ways we give back to our nonprofit partners. It also speaks to the tremendous enthusiasm and dedication of our people. We don’t just write checks, we get involved. We help build lasting capacity, we develop long-term partnerships, and we invest in the future of our communities.” Past National Philanthropy Day honorees include the S. Mark Taper Foundation (2006), W.M. Keck Foundation (1998), Ahmanson Foundation (1993), and Weingart Foundation (1988) in the Outstanding Private Foundation category, along with the Walt Disney Co. Foundation (2005), Wells Fargo Foundation (2001), and California Wellness Foundation (1994) in the Outstanding Corporate Foundation category. “The Majestic Realty Foundation joins a list of prestigious community leaders who have helped shape the spirit of giving in the Los Angeles area,” said Barbara Racklin Bushnell, a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and co-chair of National Philanthropy Day in Los Angeles, 2007. More than 800 are expected to attend the Nov. 14 luncheon, which will be emceed by KNBC news anchor Chris Schauble. In nominating the Majestic Realty Foundation for this honor, Claudia Keller, executive director of the American Heart Association, Los Angeles County Division, said the Foundation brings “many of the same entrepreneurial talents found in Majestic’s for-profit enterprises, to strategic philanthropic endeavors in greater Los Angeles.” The Heart Association praised Majestic Realty’s generous employee-matching program that provides two-for-one matching of individual contributions to qualifying charities, and conscientious corporate culture that encourages both employee volunteerism and leadership on philanthropic boards. The AHA cited the Foundation’s ongoing support for heart health awareness programs, as well as its innovative collaboration with six urban youth centers to create the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council (LAYLC), a mentoring, teambuilding and leadership program for teens that is making a tangible difference in the lives of our city’s In fact, one of the LAYLC’s recent graduates, Jevon Wilkes, will join Inman on the dais to receive the AFP’s Outstanding Youth Volunteer award. Wilkes, who spent his formative years in foster care, now attends California State University, Channel Islands. He will be honored for his dedicated service to the Bresee Foundation Youth Center and to his community. “What a wonderful tribute to a truly deserving young man,” Inman said. “As an active leader in our LAYLC program, Jevon enriched not only our Foundation, but also the lives of everyone he encountered. We look forward to witnessing how far his enthusiasm, determination and leadership skills take him in college and beyond.”
