THE VOLUNTEER CENTER OF THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

L.A. WORKS

Founded in 1991 by a group of concerned citizens from the entertainment, business and government sectors, L.A. Works aims to increase volunteer participation in community service projects and to provide community service organizations with access to volunteer labor and other resources. L.A. Works is part of the Hands On Network, which is made up of 58 national and international volunteer organizations that act as entrepreneurial civic action centers. HANDS ON ATLANTA
This nonprofit organization helps individuals, families and corporate and community groups find flexible volunteer opportunities at more than 400 service organizations and schools. Hands On Atlanta volunteers, now 37,000 strong, are at work every day of the year building community and meeting critical needs in schools, parks, senior homes, food banks, pet shelters, low-income neighborhoods and more. AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION
STEP OUT TO FIGHT DIABETES WALK, GRANT PARK
On Saturday, October 6, escape from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta and join the American Diabetes Association (ADA) at Grant Park and Step Out to Fight Diabetes.  Registration for this 5K walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the event starts at 10 a.m. Step Out to Fight Diabetes is the ADA's signature fund-raising event that raises funds to find a cure for diabetes.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION
2007 DALLAS START! HEART WALK, VICTORY PARK
On September 15, this event kicks off with opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. and a 3 mile walk beginning at 9 a.m. Join in to help combat heart disease and stroke.

SUSAN G. KOMEN
DALLAS RACE FOR THE CURE, NORTH PARK CENTER

Taking place October 20, this event is a 1K or a 5K-run/walk event, that is co-ed and great fun for the whole family. 75% of the net income remains in Dallas County to fund local breast health education, screening and treatment programs.  25% of the net income supports the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program.  Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by a Survivor Breakfast at 7 a.m.  The 1K run/walk starts at 7:40 a.m. and the 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m.

2007 DAY FOR KIDS DASH, SLOAN’S LAKE
Join in this 5K race beginning at 9 a.m. September 16.

RACE FOR THE CURE, PEPSI CENTER

Race day is Sunday, October 7 with events including a Women's 5K Walk/Run at 7:00 a.m., a Co-ed 5K Walk/Run at 8:30 a.m. and a Family Fun Walk at 9:30 a.m. for those who would prefer to walk less than a mile and still contribute to a great cause.  Dog lovers can also take part in a special “K9s for the Cure” dog walk event on Saturday, October 6.

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, LAS VEGAS
HEART WALK, EXPLORATION PARK
The 2007 Las Vegas Heart Walk will take place on October 13 with more than 100 companies from Las Vegas taking part and making a difference in the fight against heart disease & stroke.  The two diseases remain the No. 1 & No. 3 killers in the United States. This heart healthy, family friendly event is free of charge and open to the entire Clark County community.

JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
WALK TO CURE DIABETES, UNLV
Join supporters of JDRF on October 20 at UNLV’s North Field. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.  According to JDRF, as many as 3 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, a disease most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES: AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION 17TH ANNUAL LOS ANGELES COUNTY START! HEART WALK, EXPOSITION PARK
A non-competitive 5K walk or run, this event is expected to draw 8,000 participants to Exposition Park on September 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This year, the AHA’s goal is to raise $1.5 million to support cardiovascular and stroke research and education programs.  It is a great opportunity that combines a sense of fun, spirited competition and physical fitness for all ages.

RIVERSIDE: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD DAY
Help a family achieve the American Dream.  That’s the challenge from Majestic’s own Trent Wylde, president of the Inland Empire Chapter of NAIOP.  Join Trent and NAIOP as the Majestic Realty Foundation co-sponsors a Habitat for Humanity Build Day in Riverside on Saturday, October 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participants must be at least 13 years old.  Space is limited, so RSVP quickly.

Taking place August 4-5,  this fun-filled, overnight event brings together those who have been touched by cancer in our community.  Each team takes turns walking or running laps, trying to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. More than just a fundraiser, it honors survivors during a “Survivors Lap.”  Participants also remember those we lost to cancer during the Luminaria Ceremony. The event celebrates life, friendship, and a chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.
