HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LAYLC
Majestic Realty Foundation’s flagship program, the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council, brings together kids from L.A.’s inner city youth centers for leadership training and educational activities.
KUDOS TO THE GRADUATES - With all 14 of its high school seniors earning their diplomas and making plans for college, the LAYLC hosted a graduation celebration featuring an appearance by none other than hockey legend Luc Robitaille and his wife
Stacia. At the event, the Robitailles said they were inspired by the students, many of whom overcame hardships including spending time in homeless shelters and foster care. To celebrate their accomplishments, the Foundation provided each student with a sweatshirt for the college they will attend in the fall, along with a copy of “The College Survival Guide” and a $100 gift card to Target for the purchase of school and dorm supplies.
JEVON WILKES - Hockey star Luc Robitaille and his wife Stacia have a special place in their heart for LAYLC graduate Jevon Wilkes, a student they have supported through their Shelter for Serenity and Echoes of Hope charities. An emancipated foster youth who once lived on the streets of Los Angeles, sleeping in a doorway off Wilshire Blvd., Wilkes is a longtime member of the Bresee Foundation youth center. At Bresee he has excelled in leadership activities, art, athletics and filmmaking, winning first prize in the center’s 2nd Annual youth film festival for his short film “Give Up on My Dream.” Despite his many challenges, Jevon hasn’t given up. He will attend California State University, Channel Islands in the fall, becoming the first person in his family to go to college.
