AREA PLANNING TEAM ROUND-UP

LOS ANGELES - A member of the Los Angeles Area Planning Team recently cheered on young musicians at a recital for our longtime grantee Sound Art. Everyone in attendance agreed that the students, who receive free music lessons from Sound Art at the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth & Community Center, wowed the crowd with their musical abilities.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY- Fresh from the success of  its recent fundraiser at the Crossroads Atrium, which raised more than $48,000 for A Foundation For Kids, the San Gabriel Valley Area Planning Team is leading Majestic’s latest Jeans Day fundraiser to benefit the Citrus Valley Health Foundation. Additionally, plans are underway to support the October grand opening of a newly renovated school library in Whittier by our grantee Wonder of Reading.

INLAND EMPIRE - Always on the lookout for worthy grantees, the Inland Empire Area Planning Team conducted a site visit in June visiting a new multi-site after-school program.  And due to popular demand,  the Foundation is planning to again sponsor capacity-building workshops for area nonprofits in early November. The workshops will be co-hosted with the Volunteer Center of Riverside County.

LAS VEGAS - Foundation representatives and Las Vegas Area Planning Team members supported the Las Vegas chapter of the American Heart Association, attending its recent Go Red for Women luncheon.  Majestic hosted a table for grantees and local officials, including Janice Miller, health care aide to U.S. Senator Harry Reid.  Additionally, the Foundation will again partner with the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada in early October to host capacity building workshops for local nonprofits.

DALLAS-FORT WORTH - Looking to expand its grant making, Dallas Area Planning Team members have made numerous site visits to local nonprofits in recent weeks.  In keeping with our commitment to supporting youth and healthcare, we recently presented a grant to Camp John Marc, which partners with community and health professionals and organizations to provide high quality camping experiences year round to campers who have a chronic illness or physical disability.

DENVER - Raising our Foundation’s profile in the local nonprofit community, Denver Area Planning Team member Debbie Snow was recently invited to sit on the grant review board for the Denver Public Schools Foundation.  Snow also attended a recent luncheon to present at grant to the Second Wind Fund, which provides counseling to teens.

ATLANTA - In a flurry of activity, the Atlanta Area Planning Team made numerous site visits in May, visiting nonprofits throughout the region.  As a result, five grants were approved, totaling nearly $35,000. Our newest Atlanta area grantees are:  Camp Sunshine, Childkind, Carrie Steele-Pitts Home, Camp Twin Lakes and Families First.
